Helping children achieve their greatest potential

Dr. Cangemi specializes in comprehensive neurodevelopmental and neuropsychological assessments for children with a variety of referral questions, including autism spectrum disorder (ASD), ADHD, behavioral and self-regulation, social-emotional functioning and mood disorders (anxiety and depression).

Services

  • Autism Evaluations

Early identification and diagnosis of autism spectrum disorder (ASD) provides access to early interventions and treatments that are essential for optimal outcomes and long-term development. An autism evaluation directly assesses a child's cognition, language, adaptive behavior (daily living skills and activities), social skills as well as any sensory or repetitive/restrictive behaviors impacting the child's functioning.

  • Neurodevelopmental Assessments

Comprehensive assessments for toddlers and preschool aged children that assess all aspects of development, including cognition, language, sensory-motor skills, social-emotional skills, and self-regulation.

  • Neuropsychological Assessments

Integrated assessments for children ages 5 and older that assess neurocognitive functions, such as cognition, attention, memory, language, sensory-motor skills, executive functioning, and behavioral and social-emotional functioning.

Evaluation Process

Dr. Cangemi begins the evaluation process with a clinical interview with the child’s parents or caregivers. Information gathered from this interview allows her to tailor the testing session to the child’s unique challenges and areas of concern. Testing takes place over one to two days, depending on the type of evaluation. Dr. Cangemi ensures that the testing environment is low stress with many breaks and opportunities for play and unstructured interaction. After Dr. Cangemi completes the testing and clinical formulation process, a feedback and planning session is scheduled with the parents or caregivers, where evidence-based recommendations are provided. A comprehensive report outlining the results of testing, any diagnostic findings, and recommendations based on the child’s unique strengths and areas of challenge is provided to the family.
